Discover Techniques to Improve Teaching

The CREATE NSF ATE Regional Center, a regional approach to educating technology instructors, invites you to attend a Facilitator Development Workshop, designed to support and promote the development of teaching and workshop facilitation skills in community college instructors.
WHO? The Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW) is intended for full-time instructors who want to
• Practice, discuss, and receive feedback on effective teaching techniques, and
• Implement successful workshops for their part-time faculty.
Special Participant Requirements: For the January or June 08 FDW:
• Full-time Cisco instructors at a community college,
• Willing to supervise completion of faculty and student surveys (and to be compensated for doing this research and
• Willing to train four part-time members at your site.
WHAT? The January or June workshop is based on a longstanding experiential approach to practicing teaching. Participants are asked to learn and demonstrate certain basic elements of presenting a lesson. Short lessons are presented to other members of a small group of participants, and the lesson is videotaped. The presenter receives feedback from the participants, and he or she views the videotape at a later time. Discussion of selected teaching principles is interspersed throughout the workshop.
WHERE? The FDW is five-day workshop offered at a retreat center in the Santa Barbara, California area.
WHEN? Early January 8-13, 2008 or June 8-13, 2008.
No cost to qualified participants. On-site lodging and all meals will be provided to those faculty accepted. Transportation to and from the training site is not included. However, up to a $1000. in additional stipends are available to each Facilitator trainee to conduct the pre and post assessment and training of four faculty at your institution.
Based on previous workshops, interest is expected to be high.
